TriGeo allows us to generate reports to show auditors that our incoming traffic is closely monitored. The TriGeo network appliance actually lets me produce and manage the reports/logs for our archives. We use these reports to document that our network is clamped down.

TriGeo had only recently been installed. But, while watching the Console, I noticed an unusual series of events. I saw a bunch of "file access errors" being reported by the fax server. The details also showed which IP address and machine name was triggering the errors. It looked like someone was attempting to modify faxes that had come in.

I walked down to the user with the intention of seeing what was happening. When I got down there, the user told me that their e-mail just quit working and the anti-virus software wouldn't start up.

I immediately isolated the machine on the network and scanned it for viruses using a machine plugged into a portable hub. Sure enough, the machine was infected with a worm and it was trying to propagate by attaching itself to any file it could.

The infected PC was cleaned and the outbreak contained to the initial machine. Without TriGeo reporting the excessive errors, this worm could have gone unnoticed for days and infected the entire bank LAN.

My boss noticed the quick response and recovery and was quite impressed. He can't wait to see what TriGeo can do when we get everything rolled out.
